The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has hired 200 plus additional Inspectors and increased their ticketing power as part of their program. Workers and Supervisors can now receive a ticket (similar to a speeding ticket ) for safety infractions. The Ministry of Labour is targeting poor-performer employers with four visits per year under THE LAST CHANCE INITIATIVE. The WSIB is funding the hiring of these 200 plus Inspectors at a cost of $30,000,000 to employers through premium collections. Their plan is to target the poor performer employer by increasing their premiums (surcharge) and give rebates to good performers.
The need for companies to maintain their Health and Safety Programs is essential in establishing their DUE DILIGENCE on an ongoing basis under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In today's society it is all to familiar too find that staff are under deadlines and performing several functions within their organization leaving very little time, if any to properly maintain a Health and Safety Program. Many businesses are out-sourcing their Health and Safety Program to ensure that it does not get overlooked and is maintained on an on-going basis to foster a positive and healthy safety culture within their organization, reducing the chances of failing a Workwell Audit and being charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. by the Ministry of Labour.
Employers realize the effect of a well maintained Health and Safety Program directly affect their bottom line and can save them hundreds of thousands of dollars in WSIB claims and health care costs including the cost of retraining injured person in a secondary job.
