Each year thousands of students and young people enter the work force. As parents and employers we are proud of them for taking hold of their young lives and being responsible to make it on their own in the work force.
Unfortunately being proud of them is not enough As parents and employers we have a greater responsibility to these young workers.
Our responsibility is to inform them of their Right to Know, Right to Participate and the Right to Refuse.
In Ontario (2002) eight young people who headed off to their jobs never returned home to their families.
On average, in Ontario, 42 young workers are killed, injured or become ill everyday while on the job.
During the years 2000- 2004 workers under the age of 25 experienced;
- 73,598 lost time injuries
- 177,185 no lost time injuries
- 60 traumatic fatalities
The majority of traumatic fatality injuries occurred due to Motor Vehicle Traffic Accidents, Accidents caused by Machinery and Accidental Falls.
Young workers employed in occupations such as Construction Trades, Transport Equipment Operating, Product Fabrication, Assembly and Repairing had the highest number of Traumatic Fatalities.
Our goal at Mobile Training Consultants is to see that every young person who heads off to work makes it back home to their families everyday. We cannot do this alone, we need your help, call us, and together we can make a difference.
